Mood Board | Blue & Yellow, Catch a Fellow…

September 27th, 2010

blue & yellow, catch a fellow…

I don’t remember the whole nursery rhyme, but I love the combination of blue, purple & yellow. There’s something so happy and so confident about these three colors together.

And just a little side note, that precious little blue flower in the corner is one of the few true blue flowers in the floral kingdom. It belongs to a group of one of my favorite flowers – poppies! It’s the Himalayan Blue Poppy, or Meconopsis Betonicifolia. Originating in the cold climes of the Himalayas…I would make a trek to the Himalayas just to see that little beauty bloom.

Mood Board | Cupcakes & Carousels

I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to use an image from Steven Meisel. He is one of the first fashion photographers I ever remember obsessing over.  I would ravish every Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar looking for editorials that featured his genius eye and clever composition.

I love prints, but I’m quite picky about them. I’m so happy I could use two images that used prints – how about that print on the dress and the colors of the print on the program below? They’re both so very pretty!

Mood Board | Amazing Lace

May 3rd, 2010

I’ve always loved lace, especially black lace. There is something about it that is so alluring, evocative, and utterly captivating. It’s full of mysterious, sultry and feminine appeal. You absolutely cannot go wrong with black lace when it comes to creating a color palette around it. I love to keep the colors around it neutral to mimic the look of lace against skin.

Lace was also all over the runways for spring 2010, highlighting collections for designers such as Valentino, Phillip Lim, Dolce Gabbana and Stella McCartney. Go celebrate the femme in you – don a pair of lace gloves, decorate with that vintage lace throw you inherited from your great-aunt Vi and marvel at how fun it is to be a girl who can add lace to her life!

A Mood Board for a Monday | Golden Dreams from a Love Affair

March 1st, 2010

I love love love this board so much! I just want to fall into that bed right in that lake…wearing that dress!

I had created a draft of this mood board and saved it. I had forgotten all about it and when I looked at it again a day later, it just took my breath away (I can be very forgetful of the things I do.) The images are sublimely romantic and blissfully dreamy.

I had a color board in mind that was based on golden tones. I was originally shooting for a monochromatic color scheme. But the aquamarine and the olive gradually revealed themselves as I started working with the images.

Photos like these make me so giddy with adoration of all the beautiful and fleeting moments of time that we can capture.

Our wedding on Style Me Pretty

February 15th, 2010

I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to post photos from our wedding. One of my favorite wedding sites, Style Me Pretty, has featured our wedding and I wanted to say YAY!!!!!

Click here, here and here for all the yummy photos by the sweet, talented, and adorable Amy & Stuart.

Our wedding was so much fun to design. My mind was filled to the brim and overflowing with all the wonder-full things that inspired me. I started keeping track of what I liked and eventually created a mood board.  The single most important thing that I designed were the invites.

So, just when you thought that this post was all about our wedding, I’m sharing with you my mood board that inspired all of all our paper goods: the save-the-dates, invitation suite, programs, table numbers, etc.

I was completely inspired by vintage French soap & perfume labels. I also wanted to use silhouettes. I couldn’t decide which idea I loved more, so I ended up using both. I also loved the idea of a vintage typewriter font, which I used on the wood veneer STD’s and the outter envelope. The actual invitation, RSVP, map & info card used several different fonts. I’m not a purist, I love eclectic styling, and as long as it looked great and there was some unity and cohesiveness, I was OK with things being mismatched.

These are a few images of how it all came together – enjoy!

Mood Board | Baby, It’s Cold Outside

January 4th, 2010

Happy Happy 2010!

I’m on the east coast right now and it’s been a great change to experience seasons other than Los Angeles weather. I’ve been wearing my scarf, hat, gloves, and thick shearling coat for the last week and a half. Living in LA can make you forget that there are seasons outside of our palm-treed and 75 degree city. I wouldn’t want to shovel a sidewalk every time it snowed, but I really don’t mind layering up when the weather is brisk and chilly.

I will have to unfortunately scale back on how often I post my mood boards. I have a terribly exciting new project in the works that will be taking up a great deal of my time. Once I have more of my time logistics worked out, I will resume with more boards.

In the meantime, enjoy the first of this year’s mood board and stay warm!
