I know it’s not officially spring yet, but I’m impatient for it to arrive. The clocks turned forward yesterday and the plums trees in my yard have been blossoming. Here’s a soft and sunny mood board to get you ready to transition out of winter and into early spring.

I love the holidays and when the holidays are over, I’m always left feeling a bit sad. The tree gets taken down, ornaments are packed away, and all the shiny pretty things I have around the house to make it extra special gets put back into storage until Thanksgiving. So here’s a little mood board for those winter blues that set in after holiday parties are well over…

I usually am drawn to photographs with color. But while going through all my files of beautiful photographs, one in particular caught my attention: a gorgeously detailed gown captured by Elizabeth Messina of an Oscar de la Renta piece (shown in the top left corner of my mood board). Elizabeth is such a master of capturing images using pure light. Her images always look so easy and timeless.

I also discovered a wonderful artisan named Maggie Austin Cake. Maggie was classically trained as a ballet dancer. She then went on to work under some of the most respected pastry chefs. Her works shows such a delicacy and grace. You can see the influence of elegance and finesse that her ballet training must have had on her.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. This board was inpired by the Granny Smith apples that I’m seeing everywhere in the supermarkets. At first glance, this palette might strike you as being too light for a fall/winter board. But the addition of a medium hued grey as well as black lend nice dark colors to a bright palette. The result is a fun and fresh color scheme!

It’s getting chilly here in LA and I love it!

Green and brown are an instinctual color combination. After all, you find it everywhere in the natural world. For this board, I wanted to put together an unexpected shade of green and pair it with a copper. You would usually see a mint green like this in a pastel palette that’s reminiscent of candy hearts. These colors, however, are great for a fall palette – the copper celebrates the season, but the lightness of the green keeps it from being too somber.

I love this image from the Alannah Hill Autumn/Winter 2010 campaign called “Garden of Roses”. It’s the inspiration for today’s mood board. Rosy berry hues accented with a rich mustardy yellow…yes please!
