Mood Board | Old World Emerald

January 31st, 2013

I wanted to end my emerald-based color boards with an emerald-inspired mood board. I haven’t created mood boards in aaaages and I’ll try to keep creating them on a regular basis in addition to my color boards. What’s there not to love about emerald? It’s rich, it’s romantic, it’s elegant, it’s chic, it’s timeless…It evokes such a feeling of stateliness and grandeur that it’s captured our attention in mythology and in literature. I love this color and I’m so thrilled that it’s being celebrated as the color of the year for 2013.

Color Series | 229 | Laspata/DeCaro re-post

I’m re-posting a photo from Laspata/Decaro of this fabulous Oscar De la Renta from last February. It’s such a great image showing this year’s emerald mixed with retro green-yellow hues. The green-yellows have a very 1950’s mid-century vibe to them, but the print is anything but that. In fashion, it’s all about being able to take the old and re-mix it to create the new.

I love seeing emerald combined with other neutrals like black & white or grey & white. It’s preppy without being stuffy. It’s fresh and upbeat. It’s energetic and eye-opening.

This photo shows how a velvet emerald blazer, when paired with classic trousers and a white button down shirt, creates a timeless look that get an update with this year’s color.

Happy 2013!

I wanted to start off this new year with a series of color boards dedicated to the color emerald! Pantone is naming color #17-5641 the color of the year. You’ll be seeing it everywhere in fashion and in interiors. Some of you have already seen it on the red carpet in gowns, accessories, and jewelry. Emerald is a rich color that connotes elegance, mystery, and beauty. Dorothy sought the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz and Cleopatra was well known for being an admirer of emeralds.

Gems are always a great inspiration for color. Following along with emerald, you’ll be seeing other greens such as jade and peridot becoming more popular this year. I love combining citrine, brass, or gold accents with emerald. The tones play well off of each other and gives a richness to emerald that makes it so alluring.
