Color Series | 20 | Stellan and Steven

July 22nd, 2011

Was inspired by a great photo from Stellan Herner of a cute little settee against a pretty rose wallpaper. Such pretty textures and colors! I think it works well with this ad that Steven Meisel shot for Prada A/W Eyewear 2011.  Both photos have that vintage mod vibe that Prada has long been a proponent of.

Color Series | 18 and 19 | “B” is for Blue

July 21st, 2011

I’m continuing on the theme of blue from yesterday’s cobalt blue post. I found this Martha Stewart photo via Style Files. Chambray has been making a huge reappearance in fashion lately. I really like how this photo is styled and how so many shades of blue are used. Blue gets layered in multiple shades and tones to create both a calming and sophisticated style by way of the humble blue bandana.

“B” is for Blue and “B” is for Brilliant!

Some more blue chambray prettiness: tangerine and dusty pink also work so well with chambray blue.

Mood Board | Cobalt Crush

July 20th, 2011

The latest editorial from Fashion Gone Rogue made me remember how much I love cobalt blue. I usually love it paired with a vibrant red or a shocking pink, like this board I created inspired by Elsa Schiaperelli. But the soft background of this photo (upper left) paired with the vividness of the cobalt blue made me want to play with another scheme using aqua and a mint green. Add in some woodsy neutrals and you have a winning color palette. I’m loving this combination and I hope you do, too!

Color Series | 16 | Prada Resort 2012

July 19th, 2011

Lovely lookbook styling from Prada for Resort 2012. The Eames chair sets the mood for the nod to retro 50’s with the sweater sets and below-knee length skirts. In terms of color, a solid taupe is the only neutral base color here. Rainbow sherbet solids and then a popping lime and lemon print all work so well together when the shades and tones are so expertly balanced.

Prada has always been so great at delivering collections that spin retro, vintage nostalgia into very modern and forward trend-setting looks that inspire designers across all disciplines.

Color Series | 15 | Dsquared² Resort 2012

July 19th, 2011

I forgot to post this last week, but didn’t want to skip out on this color scheme. Dsquared² Resort 2012: bright pops of color with camel, chambray and bright white neutrals. The addition of chambray really makes it so fresh and unexpected.

Carmageddon weekend in Los Angeles means I won’t be driving. But I will be bicycling on the beach. How about a pretty one like this.
